The building was constructed in two parts. The main building was to house the collection, and the adjoining building was to serve as living quarters for Dr. Barnes. Today, the adjoining building functions as the Foundation's administrative offices, and also houses many paintings, including a portrait of Dr. Barnes by de Chirico.
